OUR MOTIVATION

To provide greater choice of high quality housing and care to those that need it the most.

The Challenge

Complex problems require collaborative solutions.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is almost fully operational nationally.

Through the NDIS, the Federal Government has made an initial commitment of $700 million in funding for Specialist Disability Housing (SDA) annually. Appropriate housing for individuals living with a disability is a key priority for the NDIS, in particular, adults who are currently living with ageing parents and young people living in nursing homes.

Of 460,000 NDIS participants, 28,000 are estimated to be eligible for SDA support and this number is expected to grow.

  • 16,000 people currently live in some form of SDA.

  • ~80% will require upgrading or redevelopment within 10 years

  • 12,000 people currently have no access to SDA.

  • $5 billion capital is estimated to be needed to provide SDA for 12,000 participants to meet NDIS goals.

  • We exist to transform the lives of individuals through their ability to choose where and how to live.

Sector leadership

We’re not just an investment fund, we also strive to influence the disability housing system. We understand that a strong disability housing system makes for a stronger economy and community.

That’s why we have engaged SVA to develop a rigorous outcomes measurement framework to better measure, evaluate and understand the needs of disability housing in Australia.
